SPEAKING OUT AGAINST DISINTEREST DIRECTED AT WOMEN: DAVID SILVERFISH |
Here is part two of my endless series prompting secular leaders to write vague, non-committal condemnations of unnamed jerks lurking about. Some have suggested this is damage control after Kiki and I have alienated large sections of the secular community with our crying and petulant finger-pointing. This is utter nonsense. Bringing discussion and attention to the very real problem of disinterest toward women is a moral imperative. If, along the way, we also produce an illusion of support for ourselves from leaders in the community, well that’s just coincidence.
I’m thrilled to present this important paragraph from Atheists with Attourneys (AA) President David Silverfish about why bad people doing bad things are bad and not good.
It happens every day in our community. A woman writes an important tweet, perhaps something about why the Spiderman film sucked, only to find no replies or a single retweet. Facebook links don’t get shared. Blog posts go un-pinged-back. Sure, we’d like to think this always happens because those social media-jaculations are boring, badly written, pedantic, or better said a thousand times already that week, but the truth is that it’s pure distilled hatred for all womanity. If you’re retweeting Neil deGrasse Tyson quotes but not Blog Hog’s favorite episode of Gilmore Girls, you’re part of the problem. Can you honestly say that if NDT tweeted about Gilmore Girls you would not be interested? I realize this may upset you: it can be shocking to be made aware of privilege so abruptly. I felt it was necessary.
As humanists, it is our charge to be sensitive to the oppressed minorities and women, something I and everyone at AA takes very seriously. For example, before I tell Muslims they are pedophile psychopaths, I preface the statement with a trigger warning [ATTENTION: The follow comments might remind you how fucking retarded your backward barbarian religion is and make it harder for you to rape 9 year olds]. See? that’s how easy it is to raise your consciousness and make the world a safer place for minorities.
I’ve been trying to speak out about disinterest directed at women for ages; ironically.. I was met with hate-born disinterest. Thanks for this, I feel so vindicated!
This unambiguous display of support from white men who are leaders instead of just bloggers is incredibly heartening; it’s a message to people who don’t have jobs other than commenting on the internet: stay the course, you’re winning!
and let’s face it.. no one has been victimized by interest from literally millions of people more than Orwellia. I’ve watched often, as OB has been forced to ratchet the drama level to super-human proportions just to fight the hatred-born indifference. Such pragmatic, strong resilience would give me a stiffy- if that weren’t incredibly offensive to mention.
Oh. My. God. I’ve been completely ignored on this blog by everyone, and I assumed it was because I’m a foul mouthed bitch that alienates everyone by dumping pure vile and hatred on them. But obviously it’s disinterest that is the problem! In fact, this has been happening all my life, just people, people, people…..all ignoring me. Thanks so much for this blog, it’s explained me to me and I am literally in tears right now. See? Tears on the key board, I can’t see properly to type.

Thank you so much for this. Ignoring a woman is an aggressive act in itself, and at times can even become violent. Men ignore me all the time, and then gaslight me when I shout back at them – oh – so it’s ok when you’re aggressive towards me, but not when I am towards you? Yeah, fuck that noise.
